Have you noticed that “they” like to soft-pedal things these days. “They” call a drunk an alcoholic. “They” call a sodomite gay. They have declared right wrong and wrong right. “They” have redefined sin as mistakes and errors in judgment. Since things have become blurred, exactly what is sin? Whose opinion matters? Who are “they” anyway? And why do “they” decide things?
An opinion really doesn’t carry much weight. People can argue all day about their opinions. At the end of the day, nothing has been accomplished. God revealed to mankind what sin is in the Bible. There are many passages, but this one covers it well.
“What cometh out of a man” displays his heart. The passage then gives examples. Everything starts in the imagination. By entertaining evil thoughts, actions follow. This is the point to parent yourself and say, “No, I’m not dwelling on that.” An unrestrained thought life leads to adultery, fornication (which covers all sexual perversion). Lasciviousness is sexual sin. Pride and boneheadedness is also listed. The things that come from within defile the outward conduct of a person. All sin is addictive and foolish to dwell on and get involved with.
Exactly, what is sin? What God says it is. What “they” say doesn’t really matter. “They” are those that have influence over others. Some are good, some are bad. Ultimately, “they” don’t matter. God is the authority. The Bible is right.
“And he said, That which cometh out of the man, that defileth the man. For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.” Mark 7:20-23.
