To me “coming apart” doesn’t sound like a good thing. It sounds a lot like “falling apart.” Basically, it means to “break away”. Wait a minute, that doesn’t sound so good either. Maybe I should say, “Get away,” but that sounds like something criminals do after a bank robbery.

Last week, I went on a Men’s Retreat. That sounds like we were on the verge of surrender.  Guess what? That’s exactly what it meant, but in a different sense.  The purpose of it was to retreat from the world to recharge one’s spiritual batteries and surrender to God’s will.

We retreated from the pressures of the world by coming apart from it. It was a getaway for sure.  No cell service, no TV, no social media, no dealing with ungodliness in the workplace, no usual struggles.  We had a chance to rest our minds from that and focus on the lessons and messages geared for men. Plus, we had an opportunity to fellowship with Christian men (Masculinity does not depend upon beer, tobacco, cursing and dirty jokes).

“And he said unto them, Come ye yourselves apart into a desert place, and rest a while: for there were many coming and going, and they had no leisure so much as to eat.” Mark 6:31.
